First off, this is the second conservation/ sustainability related event that I have attended for the year. The first one was at BahaMar. Anyways, I have decided to visit this event on May 2nd 2022 in order to learn about conservation innovations people in my country are doing!
Entering The Project I.C.E Grounds
Upon stepping in there, I was quite surprised. The area was neat and pleasant to the eyes. I love landscaping and plants, so of course I had to take a few pics of the area.
The area in general was well maintained and I would say for a person who loves the environment, sustainability and art, this place was like a dream come true! I have noted a bunch of different plant species that I have seen and will describe them in a separate post on our Instagram or this website. Stay tuned!
DIY Coffee Body Scrub
The first stall that I visited was a DIY Coffee Body Scrub Station. It was hosted by Custom Creations 242 (Insta & Facebook: @customcreations242). I must say… that coffee did smell so good! Apparently, you can get free coffee grounds at Starbucks. You just have to ask for it and its done.
After that I went on to a Starbucks booth. They had 2 free drink selections; Passionfruit Tea and Green Tea I tired the Passionfruit Tea first and it was fantastic!
Windsor School Booth
I then visited the Windsor School booth and they then decided to challenge me to a marine organism identification. I mean, there was one fish that I absolutely did not know what it was and there was a sea cucumber discarded its internal organs that caught me off guard. Other than that, their presentation about pollution was great. The future looks bright with those students!
Treasures of The Sea
After that, I stumbled upon a stall called “Treasures of the Sea” where a group of creative girls came together and made wonderful jewelry from items that they found from the beach. There were nice rings and necklaces that were showcased at the event. I was pretty satisfied with my purchase. I am sure it would make a great gift.
This is what they had to offer:
Handi Work
Then, I went to a next stall called “Handi work”. Everything that was there was, of course, made by hand! The products were absolutely splendid! The types of things being presented at the stall were perfect for parents of new-borns. They also had beautiful lip-gloss holders and cute purses.
Here is some of their work:
Soul and Soil
The next stall that I went to was Soul and Soil. At that soil, I was told about their composting process. Now, I did not get the chance to photograph their compost tea that they were promoting you can see a lone bottle of the Compost Tea in the picture in front of the book and on the of right the screen saying ” Soul and Soil”. I checked the compost that they were giving out for free and it did not have a bad scent at all. So it must have been top-notch quality compost! They also presented compost water or compost juice that they made themselves through an oxygenation process. It is great for the soil because it activates all the necessary microorganisms to make your soil flourish. I am definitely about to use all of this compost of my plants when I get home.
The Sustainable Lifestyle
The next stall that I have went to was The Sustainable Lifestyle. At this stall, I learned about all of the Native Plant Restoration projects that they have going on. They are high on reforestation after heavy storms. I have learned about a plant I have never heard before. It is called Brown Ebony and it is a native hardwood. In one of their recent projects, they have planted over 100,000 trees across 8 islands in The Bahamas! That is an amazing job and I can’t wait to see other upcoming projects from them!
Pretty Cozy Things
The final stall that visited was “Pretty Cozy Things”. Its name states what was being offered at their stall! There were candles and parfumes. They also showed me that the lights that they had set up in the stall were solar powered. Being environmentally conscious is a plus! There was this one car parfume that I liked very much. Very simple to use and I am using it right now with no complaints.
Look at this wonderful selection:
How to make your own DIY Scrub!
I went back to the DIY Coffee scrub station and I Was finally able to make my own coffee scrub. The process was quick and simple to do. I will place the instructions on how to do your own Coffee Scrub that was taken from the Custom Creations 242 card:
The ingredients you would need are:
1 oz jar
1/4 cup of coconut oil
1/2 cup ground organic coffee beans (You can get from your local starbucks – for free)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
Get the ingredients mixed up into a bowl. I would recommend putting the dry ingredients first because it seems like the proper way to do things. if you put the wet ingredients in then more power to you. But, you would know if its mixed up once it get that dark black colour and gritty consistency.
Store the mixture in a mason jar or airtight container for preservation.
You can now apply to your hands, face or feet and rinse with clean water for exfoliating effects!
Make sure use a utensil like a spoon to take the scrub out. You do not want to put your bare hands in the jar because it could introduce outside bacteria in the scrub!
